How do I get a CSCS account number?

I'd like to get a CSCS number so that i'll be able to take opportunity of public share offers without the risk of losing my certificates. I've tried logging into their website at cscsnigerialtd.com but to no avail.

Trying to register at their website will do you no good until you submit the application form to their office. To get a CSCS account is free as long as you have deposited your share certificates to your stockbroker who in turn will deposit same to the cscs depository who will then create an account for you. When you know your CSCS account number and your investor's number from your stockbroker, then you can `download the application forms for application to have online access to your cscs account from their website or get same from their office. Fill the forms and then submit at the ground floor of their office where letters are recieved. There you would fill in your Username and password with email address and also attach it with a signed personal identification form from your stockbroker. After submission, in about 4 days you would recieve an activation otification from cscs after which you can begin to log into their website to check your acount. This is just for online access.`If you want to keep your shares personally in the CSCS without allowing your stockbroker to have access to it, you may equally upgrade to a CSCS special account(=N=5,000 p.a.). The former costs =N=2,500 p.a.

CSCS simply means Central Securities Clearing System. It's like the clearing house of the Nigerian Stock exchange

Of course you already have a CSCS account through your stockbroker if you've bought or sold shares through them before. But if you are talking about a special CSCS account or online access, you can get that online at their website or at their office by application.

You don't expect me to just pay into their GTB bank account without a go ahead instruction from them.

I think if you are still having problems sorting how to get a CSCS account, then you should seek advice from your stockbroker.

I bet i could trick into their database easily just for fun. If CSCS website was a bank's website, many banks would have momentarily lost millions. The webadmin should upgrade security.

So it's still worth it. But if you are really a small investor, then you should invest in the long term by not selling till say 2years. But CSCS accounts provide you with ease of getting loans from a bank as it can serve as collateral while your stocks are held as security.

I saw a lace on their website where they said that Special IndividUal accounts were targeted at high net worth investors. Perhaps someone with just =N=200,000 stock value is not considered a high net worth investor.

Some Stockbrokers, in fact many of them tend to be very crafty and fraudulent when dealing with their customers. Imagine i submitted my share cerificates to a stockbroking company to sell them and for four to five months they keep telling me that CSCS has still not verified them. I just don't know what to do. i believe they ought to be a commission where the public can make complaints against their stockbrokers when they suspect they are been tricked.

The best thing you should do is to get your stock statement directly from the CSCS office in order to verify if the stocks are still in your account or not. You'll need to give them your investor's number and a processing fee of about 200 naira.

It has really beein helpful using cscsnigeria website to check my accounts. Now even when i'm abroad, i'm no longer afraid that a stockbroker mya sell without my authorisation. Thank God for the website. Things are gettting better in Nigeria as it's no longer stressful as it used to be going through the stockbrokers all the time

i have a friend who once got duped by a fraudulent securites company and they did so to hundreds of other customers since they folded up and ran away without a trace. But now, anytime he's buying shares, he always buys through the banks with his cscs number or his stockbroking firm and he uses only cheques and not cash again

I think to get online access to the site, you need to pay a yearly subscription of about N2500.

You can have access to your cscs account once you know the number. You should use the number in making inquiries at cscs offices or the NSE. You could equally quote the cscs number when you are buying new shares so that you won't have to wait long for a share certificate. You could equally use the number in applying for your stock statement at the NSE. Finally, to use it online, you have to first apply for online access at a cscs office like that in lagos with a fee of about N2500 p.a. This will give you online access to lodgements and stock statements wherever you are, even in the U.S.A.

You can, as long as you know your cscs number and maybe your investor's a/c number also. All you need to do is to fill a form or undertaking at cscs. Your new stockbroking company should also give this to you. It's like an account transfer form. It would do you better if you had a special cscs account so that you could easily switch from one stockbroking firm to another. There are many people who did not remeber their cscs number and when their stockbroking firm got dead, they found it hard to recover their investment

It's easy to get your cscs number back. Just go to your stockbrokers and ask them. Or if you know your investor ac number you could check for your stock details at the NSE by application. i belive they'd include your cscs number in the feedback.

You don't need to pay if you don't have a cscs number yet, unless you are paying for online access to the cscs website. You get your cscs account number by buying or selling shares through a stockbroker. You could see it in the repoerts you recieve from your broker. But if it's the online access that you paid for, then, you could get access to their website within a week in your email.

You can still have a cscs number without being in Nigeria. If your broker is unreliable, you can easiliy have someone else like a friend of brother to help you get one

My best advice to you is to go to cscsnigerialtd.com and log into your online cscs account if you have subscribed for it. If not, then you can only check it manually by making a written application to the cscs office in person
