Google adsense offers to website owner ability to make money from online advertising based on their web content. I know there are quite a lot of content sites as well as blogs especially in Africa in countries like Kenya, South Africa, Nigeria, Algeria, Egypt, Morocco and so on.
Yeah we know about the top adsense earners globally and they are mostly living in places like the US, UK and Australia. But I want to know, which websites or bloggers in Africa are really making some good income from Google Adsense.
Someone once wrote that Google adsense doesn't work in Africa but I don't want to believe that since this is the internet we are talking about.Who really is making good money from Google adsense as far as Africa is concerned?

It will have to depend on 2 things specifically:
1. The unique monthly traffic the site receives
2. If the person's site uses Google adsense
With those two basic things, I guess some of these websites are among the top adsense earners in Africa:
- Nairaland.com
- Imod.co.za
- naijaecash.com
- davidajao.com/blog
Some of these websites could be earning more than $10 a day with Nairaland on top being a very popular online Nigerian forum.
Another thing I did not look into is the niche. Some niches even with little traffic pay better than others

Most of them like Shawn are no longer using Adsense because they found out that it was not really a smart thing to focus your online income on just adsense. It is too risky. Digital Point forum now have their own in-house advertising

From my research, I doubt anyone is making much money from any contextual advertising service in Africa. I visit a lot of African websites, and the majority of them using Adsense, the Yahoo ad service or Ad Dynamo seem to be displaying public service advertisements, or ads. for the service itself. The problem is that there are VERY few advertisers who are interested in advertising to Africans.
Ad Dynamo are trying to change this, opening offices in Nigeria and Eygpt.. how successful they will be I don't know...

I know a couple of publishers in Nigeria who are actually making more than $2000 monthly from their websites and these range from job websites to academic websites. There are just individuals and not companies. I guess the fact that Nigeria currently has the highest number of internet users in Africa is helping them bring the dough. The smart thing though is not to rely on Google adsense alone because that would amount to limiting your options. In fact they could do more with referrals and affiliate programmes rather than just Adsense. Some of these websites I am talking of have a global Alexa ranking of between 1000 - 50,000. Perhaps other ad networks like Ad dynamo, bidvertiser, clicksor may help the income but there is nothing as good as your own product or service for which you collect the cash yourself.
There is one thing though I have against using multiple ad networks on a single site or page - It could slow down your website and end up reducing your overall earnings.

E-commerce businesses are profiting quite a bit in South Africa from Adsense. One is The Recruitment Network Group in SA. They only accept SA citizens but the targeting is specific. There adsense earnings are unknown but the network is increasing.

There is a career social network catering for South Africans that also pulls in quite a bit of money from Adsense. About 18$ a day. recruit2network.com
