I would like us to use this thread to share ideas or tps on how to do effective poultry farming as a business.
I personally had an exprience with it as a teenager. My mum had a poultry at home and it was one of her sit at home jobs which was doing well.
What it basically involved then was:
- Buying broiler chicks at tender age sage 2 weeks old
- Buying chicken feed from factories in form of grounded bags. The feed is so nourished with several types of food items that would make the chicks grow up faster and nicely
- The chicks are also fed with treated water during their growing stage so as to prevent diseases and death which can at times kill a lot of them. So you need to add some recommended chick drugs in there water which will make it a little bit yellow.
- You will need to put them in an airy cage which is also fitted with insulating bulbs which are switched on in the night. The cage will also be covered with blankets or covering to prevent cold at night
- They normally grow faster and in a couple of months they grow to broilers or layers
- You need to decide on the kind of chicks you want to buy as they could be broilers or layers
- Broilers are chicks that are grown for their meat only and they tend to grow bigger faster while Layers are the ones you breed as egg layers and depending on the kind of feed you give them, they will start laying eggs for you at a faster rate
- Broilers are good for breeding especially when people are willing to buy more meat like during festive seasons like Christmas, Easter and other special times
- Layers are good for daily use as they can be a good source of regular income by providing egg which people are likely to eat everyday.
- The cost is not much as it depends on your capital but you could start with as little as 10 chicks or as much as 100 in a cage and then separate them as they growBuying them as chicks is the key to getting good profit so bargain for the right price. You just need to make sure that you protect your investment as they grow by being wary of disease breakouts.
