There's been a lot of tension lately ever since the exit of the military from aso rock with the ongoing violence in the Niger delta, activities by MASSOB and divisive politics by various prominent men in Nigeria who feel more free, now more than ever in talking about the fate or their disgust about the Nigerian nation. What is happening now makes me to think about why our fathers actually fought the Biafran war. What was their main reason? Was it oil? Probabaly not. Cos by 1967 when the war was fought, they was no oil export or oil boom which came about 15 years later. Seeing that the war may not have been about oil, why then? Why did Nigeria go to war against their own fellow Nigerians? Biafra may be justified in the light of present events in the country when a major part of oil states in Nigeria suffering in under development while states that do not produce any meaningful output still share in oil revenues. Is that true federalism? Perhaps not.
