We know that there are the biggest online payments processors in Nigeria and a lot of well meaning Nigerian online businesses now do e-commerce on their platform for a set up fee of about N150,000. I don't yet know if the fee is just for setting it up or a periodic payment. I am yet to have access to any publicly available api or script that Interswitch or Etranzact uses to process online orders. It would be great if they made it publicly available so that webmasters would know the feasibility of integrating payment forms to their network.
Online payment companies like Paypal, Google checkout, Alertpay, Moneybookers and even liberty reserve even offer such payment services for a much afforable fee and set up costs and yet they offer us a sample of their api and tutorial on how to integrate it to a site. Why are teh Nigerian companies not open about their services?
Questions I would have loved to ask Etranzact and Interswitch are:
- If they use Instant Payment Notification like Paypal or Alertpay
- If there are any other processing fees apart from set up cost
- How and when merchants would be notified of inflows to their online account
- How long it takes for the companies to actually release such funds collected so far into their bank accounts

But with the secrecy and everything, I'm not yet satisfied with doing business when there is no transparency.

You can learn more about the WEB API at http://www.interswitchng.com/business/web_pay.aspx. It uses a TripleDes algorithm to secure your pin but I am not sure if they use IPN. They perhaps chose not to display much information about their payment process and variables used. That is not good for webmasters who may want to simulate or integrate their payment system to interswitch.
As for Etranzact, you can also get more details from http://www.etranzact.com/etranzact/webconnect.php.
It has to do with their product called Web connect:

WebConnect is a solution developed to accept and process payment on behalf of the merchant. The solution is ported or integrated on eTranzact merchant website. eTranzact WebConnect API is unique because of its capability to accept all cards issued locally and international, cards like Visa and Master Cards. It has the ability to credit multiple account simultaneously online real-time.. This solution can be integrated on all Websites irrespective of the programming language used for development. The transaction data are encrypted and transmitted to the eTranzact central switch for authentication and validation

Yeah I am sure that by the time Interswitch starts handling the same volume of transactions Visa is already handling, they may crash
